Student Exhibition Art Awards Sign up

Thanks to our new underwriter, the Jamie Hornbaker State Farm Agency, we are now offering cash awards. First, second, and third-place winners will receive Blick Art Supply debit cards for personal art materials. Additionally, participating instructors will receive a $100 certificate to support their school’s art program.

Exhibits run from November through April, with months available on a first-come, first-served basis. Your school's display will open in time for the First Friday Art Walk. Exhibit receptions are held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., offering patrons, exhibitors, and families an opportunity to enjoy the gallery and complimentary refreshments.

Artful Techniques Class

Hosted by Kathy Pflaum at the Topeka Art Guild

Techniques abound for all types of art, and the mission of the Topeka Art Guild is to advance artistic techniques across all mediums.

Each month, the Artful Techniques class gives students the opportunity to learn new methods that can be applied to their own artwork. These classes are designed to let you explore and experiment without a large upfront investment—perfect for discovering what techniques truly inspire you.

We kick off the series in February 2026, meeting on the second Saturday of each month.

$55 for each the class as all supplies are provided. Join us for every class or simply choose the ones that spark your interest!

Artful Techniques is all about exploration and having fun.

Class Descriptions

September – Fabric Flower Art

Create a small floral arrangement by ruching or folding fabric onto a small canvas.
We’ll also cover how to properly wrap and prepare the canvas for hanging.

October – Spooktacular

Soft transparent layers and magical watery movement make watercolor a great medium for the spooky season. We will create moody backgrounds, let the water move the paint into spooky shapes, and learn to lift the paint to create glowing lights and atmospheric mist.

November - Scandinavian Christmas

Join us in making at least 6 Scandinavian inspired Christmas decorations like smallkarameller (Swedish tissue paper decorations that look like wrapped candies), julharta (Danish woven Christmas heart), and joulutahti (Finnish paper stars). While we are creating our treasures, we will taste some traditional Christmas goodies like rommegrot (Norwegian Christmas pudding), pepparkakor (Swedish spiced gingersnaps), and hallongrotta (raspberry thumbprint shortbread cookies.) This class is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit!

This Is More Than an Art Booth — It's a TAG Outreach Opportunity!

Our primary goal is to introduce more people to Topeka Art Guild and encourage artists and art lovers to become involved with our organization.

We'll also be promoting our upcoming Fine Art Fair in March and looking for artists who may want to participate.

So we're looking for members who are willing to:

Show their artwork.
Talk about TAG.
Meet other artists.
Promote our March Fine Art Fair.
And help us carry the stuff!

Many hands make light labor!

You don't have to spend the entire day at the fair to help.

There are several ways you can participate.

SET-UP — 8:00–10:00 AM

We need several people to help:

Set up the tent
Set up art racks
Move tables and chairs
Set up artwork
Organize the booth
Get everything ready for the public

BOOTH STAFF — 11:00 AM–2:00 PM

We need at least one additional person with DeAnna during this shift.

BOOTH STAFF — 2:00–5:00 PM

We need at least one additional person with DeAnna during this shift.

NETWORKING / ARTIST OUTREACH

We would like 2–3 people to walk around the fair and talk with other artists about:

TAG programs
Our upcoming March Fine Art Fair
Opportunities to exhibit with TAG

This is a great job for someone who enjoys meeting people but doesn't necessarily want to sit in the booth all day.

TEAR-DOWN — 5:00–6:00 PM

We need a crew to help take everything down and return equipment to the appropriate people/gallery.

If you bring something, please plan to take it home at the end of the day — OR coordinate with someone who can take responsibility for returning it.

EQUIPMENT WE NEED

Here's where I would make the signup sheet especially useful.

Folding Chairs

Need: 2 people

Each person brings/carries 2 folding chairs from the Gallery.

Chairs should be picked up during the few days before the event and returned to the Gallery the following week.

6-Foot Art Grid Racks

Need: 2–3 people

We need 6 total grid racks.

Each volunteer can commit to bringing 2 racks.

The racks fit in an SUV with the seats down.

Folding Table

Need: 1 person

Bring one folding table from the Gallery.

ADAF is providing one table, so this will give TAG two tables total.

Tabletop Card Spinner

Need: 1 person

Approximately 24" × 18" × 18" and lightweight.

Pick up from the Gallery before the event and return afterward.

Shrink-Wrap "Crèche"

Need: 1 person

Bring the folding display rack containing the shrink-wrapped artwork.

Tent

Need: 1 person/crew

We need someone to commit to bringing the tent, sides and weights/stakes at 8:00 AM, helping set it up, and taking it home after the event.

Tent Setup Crew

Need: several people

Even if you aren't responsible for bringing the tent, we need people there at 8:00 AM to help put it up.

ARTIST PARTICIPATION

Medium Artwork

Approximately 18–36 pieces

3D Artwork

Approximately 3–4 artists

We can dedicate one entire table to 3D work.

This would be perfect for:

Ceramics • Jewelry • Small Sculpture • Other 3D Work
