Kathy Pflaum — Fiber Mixed Media Artist
Biography
Kathy is a fiber mixed media artist whose work blends a diverse
array of materials, including fiber, metals, ceramics, wood, and found
objects. Her artistic journey began with traditional quilting, which
later evolved into experimenting with folded fabrics and hand-dyeing
fibers for her creations. Today, she employs a variety of techniques,
materials, and forms to produce her distinctive artwork.
Artistic Evolution
A significant period in Kathy’s development occurred during her time
living in Denver. There, she immersed herself in learning about
different fibers, dyeing methods, and innovative techniques, experiences
that marked a turning point in her approach to fiber art. Upon
returning to Topeka, Kathy began to experiment more broadly with her
work—a practice she continues today.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Kathy held her first solo exhibition of fiber and metal pieces at Anna’s
Oven in Kansas City and has since shown her work in various venues
throughout Northeast Kansas. Her hand-dyed fabric was published in the
Dec/Jan 2016 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. Actively engaged in the
local arts community, Kathy is a member of the Topeka Art Guild and
participates in events in the NOTO Arts District.
Teaching and Community Involvement
Kathy is dedicated to sharing her knowledge by teaching classes in Color
& Design and various fiber art techniques. She regularly teaches at
Topeka Art Guild and offers lectures and talks on fiber art at
different venues.
