Nancy J. Overmyer
Nancy was a gourd artist for over twenty years but made the decision to
quit in 2020. She spent time researching to find the source for her ext
art journey. Botanical printing really caught her attention because of
the leaves. Living back in the woods down a long
driveway she calls Gooseberry Lane she creates several types of prints
in her studio in the woods.
Her preferred methods of printing are Eco Printing and Wet Cyanotype and
Gel Print.
EcoPrinting involves paper and leaves, stacked and steamed in a big pot.
A
few minerals help pull colors and patterns from the leaves to create the
art.
Cyanotype is done using photo chemicals on paper with leaves and
finished in the sun. The "wet" comes in before the sun when I add water
and spices to change the original cyanotype look. Gel Plate uses a
magical gel medium plate and acrylic paint. Paint is applied to the
plate then leaves and stencils make marks and designs on the plate.
Paper is pressed onto the plate and pulled for the final look.
She has entered art in the Lenexa Art show, the Itty Bitty Art Show/
Baldwin City/Lumberyard Art Center, Desoto Art Show and the Topeka Art
Guild 's Fine Art Show.
